The Carswell Group is a mid-sized mergers and acquisitions advisory firm. We market our clients for sale and actively conduct research within an approximately 200-mile radius of Louisville, KY. We serve clients in Nashville, Bowling Green, Lexington, Cincinnati, Columbus, OH, Dayton, Columbus, IN, Indianapolis, Evansville, Owensboro, and Pittsburgh, PA. Our memberships have expanded beyond local and regional associations to include a substantially national presence.
NA Carswell, Jr. and his wife of over 40 years currently reside in Louisville, KY, where they have lived since 1980. Mr. Carswell attended the University of the South in Sewanee Tennessee, where he majored in English and History. After college, he served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
He has completed several business and professional courses, including Valuing the Closely Held Business, Managing the Closely Held Business, and Financing the Closely Held Business, each sponsored by First National Bank of Louisville (now PNC). In addition, he attended a seminar at Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management entitled “Valuation Methods and Techniques for Closely Held Businesses.” He holds the Certified Financial Recaster and Certified Franchise Consultant designations.
Although Carswell has worked in sales and management for companies such as The Procter and Gamble Distributing Co., his first love is small business. He has served as a consultant to privately held companies in manufacturing, software development, technology and distribution. He has worked to organize mergers and/or acquisitions for companies both locally and nationally and has participated in over 40 transactions totaling over $75,000,000.
He has spoken on a variety of topics including “Professional Selling,” “The Emerging Role of Women and Minorities in Small Business,” and “Valuing the Closely Closed Firm.” In 2006, Mr. Carswell served as a visiting professor at the University of Kentucky Gatton School of Business.
He and his wife own several small businesses (http://www.smockingshop.com/) and often comment that they haven’t received a paycheck they haven’t written down in at least 30 years.
In addition to the above, he belonged to the Louisville Area Chamber of Commerce and the National Office Products Association. Over the years, Mr. Carswell served on the boards of Prison Fellowship and Young Life Kentuckiana. He also served as a coach at St. Matthews Little League for four years.
Mr. Carswell has been involved in a consulting capacity with several local businesses, in addition to serving on the Affiliate Advisory Board of the Business Brokers Network in Dallas, TX. He has served on the boards of The Cabbage Patch Settlement House in Louisville and the St. Xavier High School PTA. He is currently an Elder in the Presbyterian Church in America and has served on the board of Covenant Classical Academy in Louisville.
